RDF Forums: An Introduction
|RDF Forums: An Introduction|
Here is a brief introduction to our forums and how to use them.
THREADS and POSTS
To start a new THREAD, click the “Post a Thread” link at the top of the main forum and use the dialogue box to type your message. To add a POST to an existing THREAD, first open the thread you want to comment on, and click “Post Reply” at the bottom of any existing POST in that THREAD or at the bottom of the page.
CATEGORIES and TAGS
All threads in the RDF Forums are organized using two basic levels of organization…thread tag “CATEGORIES”…and… the thread “TAGS” that fill up each “CATEGORY.” Think of them like the Make and Models of cars/trucks. Toyota would be a “CATEGORY” while the Prius, Camry, Tundra, and Tacoma would be the actual “TAGS.”
The CATEGORIES in our forums are all in capital letters and currently consist of the following:
RAID and INSTANCE GUIDES
LFF – GROUP ACTIVITIES
OTHER – MISCELANEOUS
The following are TAGS currently found under the “RAID and INSTANCE GUIDES” category:
Category – RAID and INSTANCE GUIDES
Tag – Rise of Isengard
Tag – Update 6: Shores of the Great River
Tag – Update 5: Armies of Isengard
Tag – Enedwaith
Tag – Mirkwood
Tag – Mines of Moria
To make searching easier, every thread has at least one tag (the primary tag). Each thread can also have several secondary tags. For a full listing of categories and individual tabs, on the forums page click on “Switch to New Beta Mode” and then click “Classic Mode.”
SEARCHING the FORUMS
If you want to find a thread about a specific topic, you can either use the search field (top left) or thread tags.
The Search Field: will return both thread titles and individual posts containing the search term you entered. The advanced search options also allow you to narrow your search by author, thread tag, and time of posting.
Thread Tags: act like filters in a spreadsheet. There are two options with tags, standard and advanced.
The standard option allows you to pick just one category (and thus all the thread tags therein) or one specific thread tag. The advanced option allows you to pick multiple thread categories and tags, broadening your search. So the standard search is narrow, and the advanced broad.
Forum administrators (read officers) will occasionally tinker with the categories and tags in order to make them more relevant to the content in the forums. They may also split threads which have begun to drift onto other topics, or merge multiple threads on the same topic. Translation: although the same searches (before and after any such edits) may return different results, theys should yield more applicable information.
